I know that Newt Gingrich has his moral flaws. I know that he was a better revolutionary than he was a Speaker. I know as well that he regularly got manipulated and outmaneuvered by Bill Clinton during their political showdowns while at the same time being charmed by Clinton–so much so that Gingrich regularly claimed that he had to go into “detox” in order to recover from Clinton’s charm and blandishments.

That having been written, it bears pointing out nonetheless that Newt Gingrich is one of the best ideas people in the Republican Party. He adds intellect and serious argument to any gathering of which he is a part. And his efforts at spreading small government and free market ideas throughout the Republican Party and beyond it ought to be appreciated.

Which is why I can’t help but read this, and feel, at the very least, faintly disappointed.
